Interior design boutique comes to downtown Holland

HOLLAND – When Anna Vanderberg considered her career path, the end goal was always the same: to open an interior design boutique.

On Thursday, October 20, Vanderberg – with the help of her husband Daniel and her closest friends – will achieve this goal with the opening of Anna Interiors, located in downtown Holland at 211 S. River Ave. in the old Making Waves.

It is a realization that has taken years to prepare. Vanderberg originally went to interior design school, and the idea was still in the back of her head.

“I finally changed majors…because that was 10 years ago and I was hesitant at the time,” Vanderberg said. “Interior design has really grown and developed a lot over the past few years.”

After changing majors, Vanderberg went into the medical field. Then she became a full-time wedding and family photographer and real estate agent.

Holland's newest interior design store, Anna Interiors, opens Thursday, October 20 at 211 S. River Ave in downtown Holland.

And yet, Vanderberg said, interior decorating and interior design work was always on her mind.

She and her husband first saw the space on River Avenue in May. Four months later, at the beginning of September, they received the keys and got to work.

“It’s been a rush, but we’re doing the store in two phases,” Vanderberg said. “We’re opening the part before next week and that will be the bulk of the retail, but we’re going to be opening a second part of the store which will be more of the design center and also include those bigger pieces of furniture.”

The overall goal is to allow customers to browse a design and select items directly from the store. Retail offerings will include pillowcases; small decorative items such as candles, candles and mirrors; larger rugs and furniture – all in one space.

“That’s the ultimate goal,” Vanderberg said. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and dreamed of when I was 15.”

Vanderberg said none of this would have been possible without the help of her husband and closest friends – a few of whom have their own shops in Saugatuck and Zeeland.

“Everything was very tight,” Vanderberg said. “We always seem to know someone who knows someone and we try to keep that within our friends and family.”
